Season of the Samurai is a documentary following the on and off field exploits of an all Japanese baseball team playing in America for the first time under the leadership of ex major leaguer Warren Cromartie. This is the story of the first time an all foreign team has competed in an American sports league.
The film charts the Bears journey as an ‘Away’ team –a modern day group of wandering samurai—as they travel from Chico to Long Beach, Fullerton, San Diego, Surprise and Mesa and play 90 games over a grueling 97 day schedule as part of the Golden Baseball League’s inaugural season.
The film chronicles the culture clash the players faced each and every day both on the field and off. Whether they were facing hometown calls from local umpires or dealing with their often over bearing erratic manager…the film covers it all.
